Newport, KY (November 15, 2022) The most wonderful time of the year approaches at Newport Aquarium as Scuba Santa swims back into town soon! This is the 20th Anniversary for the one-of-a-kind holiday tradition which runs from November 25 through December 24. With festive music, magical bubbles, cheery elves and three new sand tiger sharks to swim with, Scuba Santa is making his 20th year underwater one to remember!
The Cincinnati holiday tradition started 20 years ago when Santa’s reindeer ran away and he made a stop at Newport Aquarium looking for them. After a dive and some time getting to know the sharks and a mischievous sea turtle named Denver, he grew to love this water wonderland and made it an annual tradition! To celebrate 20 wonderful years with his sea friends, Scuba Santa brought Newport Aquarium visitors an early Christmas present in the form of three new 6-7’ long sand tiger sharks. He’ll be diving with the new sharks and other animals daily while visitors talk with him and tell him what they want for Christmas. Visitors can also submit their ideas to name the new sharks.
The Christmas tradition also includes a flurry of magic bubbles that carry everyone’s special Christmas wishes to Scuba Santa. They say every time a bubble pops a wish comes true. “My wish has definitely come true and I’m so grateful that Scuba Santa has earned such a special place in people’s hearts over the last two decades” said Rebecca Foster, Newport Aquarium’s Executive Director.
Scuba Santa will be at Newport Aquarium starting on the day after Thanksgiving, then daily through Christmas Eve. A visit with the big man is free with general admission or an annual pass. During Scuba Santa’s visit, the aquarium is offering two extra months free with the purchase of annual passes. For times, advance tickets and more information visit NewportAquarium.com.
