Shore Gallery

A fish with four eyes? A fish that can 'walk' right out of the water? A fish that can spit water six feet to catch insects? All these and many more wonders from Eastern North America, South America and Asia make their home in our Shore Gallery.

In addition to the eight tanks of odd fish featured in this gallery, see these animals close up in our Tide Pool. Touch a Horseshoe Crab, tickle a Whelk or pet a real live Sea Star. Be sure to catch a wave at the surge zone - a tropical Pacific shore with actual waves!

And if you're lucky enough, you might just see a rescued baby loggerhead sea turtle temporarily displayed in one of the exhibits. The Newport Aquarium helps rehabilitate baby sea turtles until they can be release back into the ocean.

Before exiting the Shore Gallery you'll walk through a recreation of a California Kelp Forest, filled with Wolf Eels, Swell Sharks and the amazing California Sheepshead.
